1. The Great Pyramid of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza, Egypt.

The final resting place of the pharaoh Khufu, the Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Travelers can enter the pyramid where you can wander the corridors.

2. The Great Sphinx of Giza

The Sphinx in Cairo, Egypt.

One of the most iconic landmarks of Egypt, the Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of the mythical creature of a sphinx - head of a human and body of a lion. This structure was built to guard the tombs.

3. Valley of the Kings

Valley of the Kings, Egypt.

A valley used for tombs of pharaohs and nobles, the Valley of the Kings was part of the ancient city of Thebes. Travelers can go inside one tomb.

4. St. Catherine’s Monastery

An Eastern Orthodox monastery, St. Catherine’s Monastery is located at the foot of Mount Sinai. This landmark is the location where Moses from the Bible encountered the burning bush.

5. Egypt Museum

Home to an exhibit about Tutankhamun’s mummification, the Egypt Museum is a must-see for any traveler. This landmark is a great destination to learn about ancient Egyptian art, culture and history.

6. Colossi of Memnon

 Two massive statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, the Colossi of Memnon was built as guardians of the pharaoh’s tomb which has since been destroyed by natural causes. The statues look a bit worse for wear now, but they’ve been standing for around 3,400 years and counting.

7. Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel, Egypt.

Two temples carved into a cliff, Abu Simbel is known for its large pharaoh statues outside the entrance. This is an incredible photograph opportunity for visitors.

8. Pyramid of Djoser

Built for the pharaoh Djoser, the pyramid has a different look than the other, more well known pyramids such as the Great Pyramid of Giza. This landmark is one of the oldest intact stone monuments and has a stair effect to its structure.

9. Temple of Isis

A Roman temple dedicated to the goddess, Isis, the temple was one of the first discoveries in the excavation of Pompeii. Travelers are able to enter and walk around the temple for an immersive historical experience. 

10. Temple of Horus

This temple is known as the site where Horus, a falcon-headed god, fought his uncle for murdering his father. Here travelers can find colorful carvings, statues of Horus and the court of offerings.

11. Temple of Kom Ombo

A double temple, the Temple of Kom Ombo is dedicated to the gods Dobek and Horus. This double dedication can be seen in how the temple is split into two with two entrances and two halls.

12. Temple of Habu

Standing in front of the Theban mountains, the Temple of Habu is an underrated temple but significant in relation to the go Amun. In its heyday, the temple had temples, workshops, administrative buildings and a royal palace.

13. Alexandria Library

One of the largest and most significant of the ancient world, the Alexandria Library was originally dedicated to the nine goddesses of the arts. Travelers are able to tour the library and step into history.

14. Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa

Considered one of the seven wonders of the world, the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa consist of Alexandrian tombs, statues and archaeological objects. 

15. Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai, Egypt.

Also referred to as Jabal Mousa, Mount Sinai is the possible location of the biblical mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments. A great destination for travelers looking for nature experiences, this landmark also holds historical and cultural significance.

16. Al Azhar Mosque in Cairo

One of the oldest mosques in Cairo, Al Azhar stands as a high authority for Egyptian Muslims. Here travelers can find different architectural styles, tomb chambers and a mihrab.

17. Cairo Citadel

The seat of government and the home of its rulers from the 13th to 19th century, the Cairo Citadel. Inside there are mosques, palaces, museums and terraces with stunning views of Cairo.

18. Coptic Cairo

 Part of the old Cairo, this landmark acted as a stronghold for Christinanity. It’s said that Jessus, Mary and Saint Joseph visited this site.

19. Abydos Temple

Dedicated to Osiris, Abydos Temple has seven sanctuaries honoring many gods. This can be seen in the structure of the landmark with its seven distinct doorways to each individual temple.

20. Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple, Luxor, Egypt.

Comprising decayed temples and chapels among other buildings, the Karnak Temple is famous for some of the greatest pieces of Egyptian art and architecture.

21. Khan El-Khalili

A famous bazaar and souq, Khan el-Khalili is a lot like a medieval-style mall. Here travelers can buy local goods such as soap and toys as well as souvenirs.

22. Mausoleum of the Aga Khan

The resting place of Aga Khan III, this mausoleum located along the Nile river. It’s best to note that to get to this landmark travelers will need to undergo a fairly steep hike but it is well worth it.

23. Edfu Temple

Edfu Temple, Egypt.

The largest temple dedicated to Horus and Hathor of Dendera, this landmark was built on top of ruins dating back to Ramses III. This temple is considered an impressive construction feat and is one of the best preserved in all of Egypt.

24. Philae Temple

Philae Temple, Egypt.

With Greek, Roman and Byzantine additions to the structure, the Philae Temple is considered one of Nubia’s most important monuments. Travelers can walk inside and around the columns, exploring the preserved site.

25. Ben Ezra Synagogue in Cairo

Known as the place where baby Moses was found nearby, Ben Ezra Synagogue has been a location of interest for pilgrimages. It has been restored and is now an important historical landmark.
