What's in a name?

People always ask us, who is Tom Harper?  The name is derived from the great literary classic, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, where two best friends, Tom Sawyer and Joe Harper, travel the Mississippi River on grand imaginary adventures.

The story is a testament to the power of the imagination and for us, these historical figures represent an escape to the childlike wonderment of adventure-making. More than any other work in our culture, it established America's vision of childhood. Tom Harper is changing the perception of travel.

At Tom Harper, we focus on destination immersion river journeys around the globe. We understand that the heart of a culture throughout history has been it's river - Nile, Chobe, Mekong, Rhine, Seine, etc. Each of these has been the source of agriculture, commerce, transportation and the center of population and culture for eons. This is why we feel that the river journey is the best way to truly see a destination and experience the true nature of the culture you are visiting.

The river journey at Tom Harper is well paced with a fair amount of time for creating your own adventure, an abundance of shipboard activity, and port calls where you disembark to see quaint towns and villages, and thriving cities with exciting nightlife. And our well qualified and English-speaking Destination Ambassadors will be there every step of the way to assist you and help you with your immersive journey on a river of the world.

Are you tired of being hit with lots of optional tours when you go on an escorted journey? Isn't it always true that the best tours or excursions are always 'optional' and require you to drop another few hundred bucks? We are pretty sure our competitors plan it that way! That's why at Tom we decided to keep it simple and include all the good tours & excursions! We don't want to nickel & dime our customers after you pay for your journey - just because we can. But we don't want you to miss out, either. So, with Tom - it's all included!  We also include All Gratuities on all Tom Harper journeys - so no need to go to the bank to get 300 one-dollar bills before your trip!

At Tom Harper, we believe the reason to explore a new destination is to experience the uniqueness of it's people and culture.  To Tom, a Vodka Party in Russia isn't cultural enrichment.  To ensure you have this experience on your Tom Harper river journey, we include a plethora of Cultural Immersion Features such as regional meal options, local onboard entertainment, home-hosted visits, Insight Lectures on the history, religion and culture of the country you are sailing through - and much, much more.  So, let Tom not just take you to the destination, let us walk with you as you immerse in a new culture.

Experience Your Way

Tom Harper offers exclusive 'Experience Your Way' tours or excursions within many of our itineraries - at no additional cost to you!  With our complimentary 'Experience Your Way' tours or excursions we let you customize your river journey experience.  When you arrive on your Tom Harper journey we will tell you about your 'Experience Your Way' options and let you pick from a selection of exciting and immersive options.  And when we arrive at those locations - travelers will split and go on their selected tour.  Couples don't have to select the same excursion and can separate for the 'Experience Your Way' tours - and then compare notes and experiences upon return to the ship or hotel.

Traveling Solo?  So does Tom...

These days its hard for a single traveler to find a river journey where they don't have to pay an enormous supplement to get a cabin.  At Tom Harper, we are sensitive to our single travelers and work very hard to ensure the best possible single pricing available.  We offer low single supplements on our river cruise journeys and extensions!  Some of our competitors tout their "free" single supplements - but making one free per departure and raising the supplements for everyone else is a gimmick, and NOT single friendly.  Even when you compare us to others who may run a no-single-supplement offer, Tom likely has the better bottom line value!  Just check us out.  You can price online to make it easy.

Our Destination Ambassadors are knowledgeable and experienced tour directors with a personal passion about the destination you are traveling through.  Every Tom Harper river journey will be complimented with the services of a Destination Ambassador that is there to ensure your trip is successful, enlightening and rewarding.  We select our Destination Ambassadors carefully to ensure that they are fully committed to our customers end-to-end positive experience.
