Tour Operator
Southern Sea Ventures began conducting sea kayak trips in Fiji and Australia in 1988 and have built up an extensive knowledge of paddling adventures. We have steadily grown to offer a global range of 26 different camping and ship-based holidays. Private trips are our speciality and we are pleased to be able to cater for a wide range of private trips in Turkey, Sweden, Panaman, Fiji, Croatia, Australia and Tonga. Bring your own group and we can help you put together your own private kayaking adventure.
Kayak-Camping Trips
We offer self-contained sea kayaking and camping adventures to some of the world’s most beautiful destinations.
Fiji
Being self sufficient, we can discover coastlines and beaches that the ordinary traveller can only wish for. Our days are spent paddling turquoise waters, stopping for swims, snorkels and meeting the locals.
Paddling
We have a fleet of single and double kayaks on all our trips. The use of singles is up to our guides discretion and partially determined by weather conditions, ability and group numbers. We use spray skirts, life vests and adjustable paddles.
Sleeping
Our two-person tents are screened and in most destinations we supply full length sleeping mats. Single supplements for hotels and tents can be requested. For the snorers, we can usually arrange a single tent situated a little further down the beach from the rest of the group!
Our trips generally include all meals while kayaking, camping and kayak gear, local transport, fees, permits and professional guides.
Ship-Based Kayak Trips
Our ice-strengthened ship, the Polar Pioneer, and sister ship, the Spirit of Enderby, provide a comfortable base for our paddlers in polar, subantarctic and tropical environments.
Polar Pioneer was built in Finland in 1985 as an ice-strengthened research vessel. In 2001 she was refurbished in St Petersburg to provide comfortable accommodation for 54 passengers.
Polar Pioneer is not a luxury ship, she is homely and strong, built to be a working vessel and refitted to a comfortable passenger standard. The accommodation is simple yet comfortable and the meals are wholesome and simple. The mood on board is definitely casual. A small fleet of Zodiacs (rubber inflatable boats) with outboard motors enable us to travel from ship to shore.
Spirit of Enderby
On the Melanesian, subantarctic and Russian coast trips, we work with our partners, Heritage Expeditions. Heritage operates the Spirit of Enderby, a 50-berth expedition ship built in 1984 and refurbished in 2012. All cabins have outside windows or portholes and ample storage space.
