I had wanted to visit the Simien mountains for a long time and would highly recommend this trip

There is a good balance between cultural activities (in Addis Ababa, Axum and Lalibella) and trekking. Do not under-estimate the trekking. It proved far more tiring ...

Ethiopia is truly unique, and I use that word sparingly - a multi-layered mix of achingly beautiful landscapes and ancient churches hewn from the rock, reminiscent of Biblical times

The culture, dance, music is different from anything you’ll experience in Africa, and yet it is Africa, with its vast skies and baboons and Ibex and Abyssinian wolf....

Requirements
As with all our Challenging programs, we expect people to be regular outdoors people, enjoying aerobic sport around four or five times a week over some period of time. Preferably this has been a long term interest but if not, you have set a program of fitness preparation with at least three months lead in time to your trip. The fitter you are for your trip, the more of a holiday it will be. Activities as close to the actual activity on your trip are the best training; in this instance walking and climbing, with and without a pack. This builds leg strength, aerobic capacity and confidence in your ability to travel comfortably with a pack for extended periods. At the same time, you are also comfortable with the layers you like to wear and footwear. Come and talk to us if you are unsure about your suitability for this trip; we would be happy to discuss your level of experience and fitness with you. Specialist gear required include walking boots, day pack and kit bag (a comprehensive gear list is provided in the pre-departure information provided on booking).,
Travel Insurance
We require that you take out a personal travel insurance policy to cover against sickness, accident, loss of baggage, unexpected alterations to travel arrangements and travel disruption, emergency evacuation, cancellations, etc. A suggested policy is enclosed with these notes. If you take out an alternative policy, we need to be advised of the details. It is your responsibility to ensure any and all pre-existing medical conditions are adequately covered by your insurer. Please note: if you choose credit card cover, in our experience, this may not insure against high cost needs. For example; helicopter emergency evacuation. If you do decide to choose credit card coverage, please check all policy details thoroughly. You should always carry your travel insurance policy, emergency card and photocopies of your passport and cash cards with you during your trip.
